What a challenge! A bright, high ceiling kitchen with a very specific layout needed updatingadded functionality. Darkgloomy, the kitchen was dated by the 70’s style arched oak raised panel doors. Due to budget constraints, the client wanted to retain the existing appliances, as most were new. Because there are two angles in the kitchen, maximizing functionstorage in the food prep area was challenging. One of the problems in the original design was placement of the trash compactor between the two angled areas,a dishwasher located directly next to the sink. When either opened, there wasn’t any room to stwork. We added a set of base drawers next to the sink, moved the dishwasher to the right.
In the newly opened up space we were able to put in a double pull out for oilsspices, as well as a two-bin trash pullout, just in the right location! An existing open shelf in the corner was replaced with a corner cabinet with doors. Utilizing the height of the walls was also important, so a row of 15″ High display cabinets with glass fronts were placed along the top of all the tallwall cabinets. These all include Halogen puck lights from Haefele,a Haefele designed lighting scheme for the whole room, including the under cabinet lights.
We started by selecting Kitchen Craft cabinetry in a Cherry Winter Stain for the basetall cabinets, then added a h painted finish in Cashmere for the upperdisplay cabinetry. A new Stainless Steel farm sink helped coalesce the look of the existing stainless appliances. A downdraft was used in place of a ceiling mounted exhaust as the ceiling height was 126″it would be unwieldyunattractive. Under the cooktop, the cabinet was customized to utilize all the underneath area for storage.
The existing wood floor was patched where needed,a Silestone Quartz top with a simple tile backsplash completed the design.
